The red-brick gym on Circuit Drive, for people who have driven past and wondered what goes on inside.
StrengthWorx sits on Circuit Drive in Hendon, around ten kilometres north-west of the Adelaide CBD. If you live in Royal Park, Albert Park, Seaton, Woodville, Cheltenham, West Lakes or anywhere else in the western suburbs, we are probably closer than you think.
We are a strength and conditioning gym first: barbells, coached classes, powerlifting and strongman, and a community that turns up for each other. Plenty of our members had never touched a barbell before they walked in. You do not need to be fit or strong to start. You need to turn up, and we take it from there.
Coached group classes. Strength and conditioning classes from 5:30am, mid-morning and through the evening on weekdays, plus Saturday mornings. Every session is scaled to the person in front of the coach, so a first-timer and a seasoned lifter can train side by side.
Powerlifting and strongman gear. Calibrated plates, specialty bars, Atlas stones and yokes. It is the same equipment used at the competitions we host, and it is there for members to train on every day.
24/7 member access. Members get a key fob for secure access around the clock, with CCTV throughout and the gym well lit at all hours. Early starts, late finishes, public holidays, whatever your week looks like.
The practical stuff. Free on-site parking, toilets and showers, and coffee close at hand. Saturday classes usually end with a cafe run, which is where a lot of the friendships here get made.
Beginners, first and foremost. If you have never trained with a barbell, the first step is a free consultation: you meet a coach, see the gym, talk through your goals and any niggles, and train for free on the day. Nobody gets thrown in the deep end.
Competitors, too. StrengthWorx hosts GPC-sanctioned powerlifting competitions and strongman events through the year, including novice comps built for a first time on the platform. Most members never compete, and that is completely fine. The option is there if you ever want it.
And everyone in between. The gym has a zero-tolerance policy on harassment and bullying, and a plain rule that everyone is welcome under the bar.
Hendon is tucked between Tapleys Hill Road and the Port River, which puts us a short drive from most of the western suburbs: Royal Park, Albert Park, Seaton, Woodville, Woodville North, Cheltenham, West Lakes, Grange, Findon, Semaphore Park, Port Adelaide.
By car: 29 Circuit Drive, just off Tapleys Hill Road, with free parking on site.
By train: Albert Park station on the Grange line is about an 18 minute walk.
By bus: services run along Tapleys Hill Road, a few minutes' walk away.
Weekdays open with a 5:30am conditioning class and a 6am strength class, then open gym from 7am. There is a 9:30am class for the mid-morning crowd and classes at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30pm. Barbell Basics runs Monday and Wednesday evenings for people learning the lifts. Saturday is an 8am class, coffee, then strongman at 10:30, with open gym after.
The timetable can change with the seasons, so treat the classes page as the live version.
I'm a complete beginner. Can I just turn up?
Yes. The easiest way in is a free consultation: get in touch through the contact form or call one of the coaches, or drop by during a class and say hello. You will meet a coach, see the gym and train for free that day. You do not need any experience, and you do not need to be fit first.
Is there parking?
Free on-site parking at 29 Circuit Drive. Early morning and evening classes are the busiest, and there is still room.
Which suburbs do your members come from?
Mostly the western suburbs: Hendon, Royal Park, Albert Park, Seaton, Woodville, Cheltenham, West Lakes, Grange, Findon and Port Adelaide. On competition days, lifters come from across Adelaide and interstate.
Is StrengthWorx a CrossFit gym or a powerlifting gym?
A strength and conditioning gym with powerlifting and strongman at its heart. Classes mix strength work with conditioning. The competitions we host are GPC powerlifting and strongman events. If you want to get strong and fitter at the same time, with a coach watching, this is the place.
Do I have to compete?
No. Most members never step on a competition platform. Some do, and the novice comps are designed for a first go. Either way the coaching is the same.
What does a membership cost?
Memberships are weekly and ongoing, and you can cancel with seven days' notice. Current plans and prices are on the memberships page, and the free consultation is the place to work out which one fits.
Book a free consultation, or call a coach. Deano and Dyllon are the two names on the door, and either of them will walk you through the gym.
